Romania – Bucharest

Bucharest Self-Guided City Walk

Bucharest is the capital city of Romania, a city impacted by war, earthquakes and the personal ego of a dictator.

Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded on the banks of the Dambovita River by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means “joy.”

Despite its recent history of communist-era concrete constructions, there are some areas that retain a hint of past glory.

This walk will take you to the heaviest building in the world; the historic Lipscani district where remnants of the ‘Paris of the East’ still can be seen; and into some fine religious buildings.

Walk Distance 4.2km / 2.6 miles mostly flat.
