Freiburg Self-Guided City Walk

Freiburg im Breisgau is a city that sits in the southwest of Germany’s Black Forest. The city is famous for its reconstructed medieval wooden buildings.

The old town is compact and easy to walk around. Highlights of the walk include The Munsterplatz with stunning buildings surrounding the magnificent cathedral, the old Town Hall, the bright House of the Whales, the highly decorated Merchants’ Hall, and the two remaining medieval gates.

Keep an eye out for a unique city feature, the Bächle (little streams) that crisscross the old town. These were built nearly 600 years ago as a water supply.
