Paris (Eiffel Tower) Self-Guided City Walk

Paris is a wonderful city, one of the world’s great cities and is ideal to be discovered on foot. As you wander between each location on this walk be sure to drift into the side streets where you will discover fascinating sights at every turn.

This walk takes in such iconic sights of Paris most notably The Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triomphe, Pont Alexandre III, and Musee d’Orsay.
Walk Distance 10km / 6.2miles on a flat path.

France – Paris (Notre Dame)

Paris (Notre Dame) Self-Guided City Walk

Paris is a wonderful city, one of the world’s great cities and is ideal to be discovered on foot. As you wander between each location on this walk be sure to drift into the side streets where you will discover fascinating sights at every turn.

This walk takes in some of the iconic sights of Paris most notably the Louvre, and also Notre Dame as she rebuilds from the devastating fire of 2019.

The riverbanks have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1991. The bridges that cross the Seine are wonderful stopping points for photos.

Walk Distance 8.1km / 5.0 miles mostly flat.

Paris (Eiffel Tower) is another walk covering the Eiffel Tower area as well as the Arc de Triomphe, several museums and the Seine Riverbank.

France – Montpellier

Montpellier Self-Guided City Walk

Located 10km inland from the Mediterranean coast, Montpellier is the capital of the Hérault department in southern France. The city was founded when 2 hamlets were combined and a castle and walls built around them. The city was first mentioned in documents in 985AD.

The wealth of Montpellier came from the wine industry. But in the 1890s a fungal disease spread amongst the vineyards and the grapes were no longer able to be grown.

There is a youthful vibrancy in the city with three universities located here. Founded in 1160, the University of Montpellier is one of the oldest in the world.

Principal sights of this walk include the imposing fort-like cathedral, the botanic garden, impressive museums, and stunning plazas.

Walk Distance 3.6km / 2.3 miles, mostly flat.

France – Reims

Reims Self-Guided City Walk

Reims is the largest city in the Champagne producing region of France. It is also where France crowned her Kings for more than 1,000 years.

The Reims Self-Guided City Walk will take you to some major Champagne producers’ cellars, the cathedral where the Kings were crowned, historic Roman sites, and the place where Germany formally signed the surrender of WW2.

France – Lyon

Lyon is the third-largest city in France after Paris and Marseilles, although when you are wandering the streets of the old town you wouldn’t know it was a large city.

This walk will take you up to views overlooking the city, down through ancient laneways, into hidden passages (Traboules), and to see beautiful buildings.

Lyon has magnificent architecture, large squares and some of the best food in all of France.

Walk Distance 4.8km / 3.0 miles with only minor rises and falls apart from the steep walk up and down from the Fourvière area.

Dijon Self-Guided City Walk

Dijon is the capital city of the Burgundy region in eastern France. It is highly regarded for its vineyards, diverse architecture ranging from Gothic to Art Deco, and wonderful Dijon Mustard.

Burgundy was a great power during the 14th and 15th centuries, when the Dukes controlled a large part of northeastern France, western Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

As a result, beautiful buildings were constructed in Dijon; this city walk will take you to these and more.

The historical centre of the city has been registered since July 4, 2015, as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Walk Distance 2km/1.2 miles on mostly flat terrain.

France – Marseille

Marseille Self-Guided City Walk

Marseille is a port city in southern France and has been a crossroads of immigration and trade since its founding by the Greeks circa 600 B.C. At its heart is the Vieux-Port (Old Port). France’s second-biggest city is rich with more than 1500 years of history.

The city is a wonderful place to walk with many viewpoints overlooking the port or towards other parts of the town.  Highlights of this walk include Cathédrale La Major, Fort Saint-Jean, Palais du Pharo and the walk alongside the Vieux Port.

This walk has a distance of 4.6km (2.9 miles) with some rises and falls but easily managed. Be aware the walk up to Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica is a very steep climb of more than 1km.
