Berlin Self-Guided City Walk
Berlin, the City of Freedom is the capital city of Germany. Since the 13th century, it has been a major city. Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1417 and then the Kingdom of Prussia from 1701.
Following World War II, Berlin was divided into East and West. A wall was built in 1961 isolating West Berlin. Following the fall of Communism in 1989, most of the wall was removed, but a few sections are still standing and are popular tourist locations.
Today Berlin is known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and more than 150 museums.
